was a spur of the moment deal. I was out getting lunch last Thursday, and I saw a garage sale occurring on my way to MickyD's!!! I slowed and pulled in and...there it was ~ a beautiful, handmade cabinet with the lovliest legs I have ever seen!!!
The cabinet was about 3 feet tall and SOLID WOOD!!! The only question was, "would it fit in the trunk of my car???" Now let me just say...the hubby is not a DIY-er so sometimes I have to be sneaky. He always likes it when I am done but seriously hates everything that is in the "before" phase. LOL... However, this cabinet was just what we needed in our entry hall, and the asking price was ONLY $10.00 so I scooped it up~!!! And...YAY...it fit!!
After buying the cabinet, I stopped at home depot for paint, glaze, and new hardwear to spiff up my bargain. I chose Martha Stewart paints and got to work right away sanding and priming my project...
(Before)
After getting the cabinet all sanded and primed up, I put on the first coats of paint and then followed with a blackish glaze to give it a weathered wood look. I am not usually a fan of techniquing, but I am really into the rustic vibe right now :) I put the cabinet in it's new home in my entryway without the doors, at first. The doors had a bit of hard time drying for some reason. So I had to give them a bit of extra drying time.

The next day, however, the were ready to be put on with the new hinges I bought to replace the old 70's style brass hinges the cabinet came with. I chose all black hardware, and it really made a big difference.
(After)
I just love the new look!! The weathered wood goes with my husbands old metal tractors perfectly. He has had them for years...since he was a child...and I just love the feel they give to my house!!!
Now...what project to take on next? I am on the hunt for more bargains, and I have a list of items I would love to score for bedrooms, dining rooms, bathrooms and more!!! I can't wait for the weekend~
